Mantiyupwi Necklace
As one of Australia’s only First Nations Jewellers, my vision and inspiration is to express the beauty of my heritage and culture by combining high-end contemporary jewellery with Aboriginal art through storytelling. Mantiyupwi is a creation that combines cultural significance with wearable art, in the form of a handmade 18ct Yellow Gold Necklace with 217 vibrant natural gemstones.
Mantiyupwi is inspired by, and representative of, a contemporary Aboriginal fish trap I built with my father on Wurrumiyanga in the Tiwi Islands, home to the Mantiyupwi Clan. I dedicate this piece to them and my father, whose guidance and connection to Country continue to shape my life and art.
Through Mantiyupwi, I hope to educate and inspire — to share a cultural practice that still lives today, deeply rooted in land, community, and tradition. Every element has meaning, carefully selected to reflect the rich natural beauty and significance of this practice:
The 18ct Yellow Gold symbolises the land — the foundation of all knowledge
The Blue Sapphires reflect the waterhole where fish gather
The Red, Yellow & Orange Sapphires symbolise the stone, sand, and clay
The Argyle Chocolate Diamonds honour the wealth and spirit of Country
The Serpent Clasp mirrors the river systems of the Tiwi Islands
The Jumpring represents the Sturt Desert Rose — found on both the Tiwi Islands and Northern Territory Flags.
This piece is more than jewellery — it is wearable art, a vessel of story and legacy. Mantiyupwi took over 300 hours to complete, and was made entirely by hand. My dream is for it to find its rightful home — a place where its story will be heard, honoured, and preserved.
